It was a very scary day. I work just a couple of miles from where the shootings occurred - on a college campus right outside of the gate nearest to where everything was happening. We were locked down until about 5pm - and could hear all the emergency sirens, response vehicles and helicopters. They just released the lockdown on Ft Hood about an hour ago. 12 dead, 31 injured - AND they just announced at the official press conference that the gunman is alive and in custody (not dead like everyone had thought). I have a feeling that it is going to be strange around here for at least a few days.

This is just so upsetting and very very sad. My prayers go out to all of them and their families. They should all be safe on their home base and now this has happened.
I have finally been able to talk to David (DH). He is stationed at Ft Hood and is OK.

I'm so glad your ok, my sorority sister came off lockdown at sevenish on the base. I'm so glad she is ok!
