Can you believe....~~UPDATED~~
with todays Economy. That a home work assignment for ds2 was to go out to a restaurant and right a review!? My dh lost his job. We can't afford to do that. So, I wrote a note to his teacher explaining. Also asked her to assign something else for him to do so he doesn't get a zero. Gosh, I hope she doesn't give him a zero due to our situation.
Haven't been to a nice restaurant in months to even write something. She'd know it wasn't the real thing!

THE TEACHER SAID NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT AND THAT SHE UNDERSTANDS. DS2 SPOKE TO HER EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER CLASS.

Oh wow!  That is kind of crazy... even in a normal economy, there are often families who cannot afford to go out like that.

Re: Can you believe....
Very strange homework assignment.  She should have offered other things for the students to do to write Reviews about:  local library exhibit, street fair, art exhibit at local museum which are often free to kids, book reading at B&N or any book store.  There are tons of options here.

That is weird. I'm sure you're not the only one that wrote that teacher a letter. I agree with Jules, there are tons of other free things to write reviews on!

Interesting homework assignment - I've never heard on one like that before.  I do agree with Jules and think the teacher should have offered choices.

Maybe she will let him write a review of a home cooked meal.  I'd love to see one of my kids critique one of my dinners!  Bad review...next meal: liver and spinach! LOL  That would teach them!
Have a blessed day!

Geez!  What happened to book reviews - not reports, but reviews?  Or concerts - I had write a ton of reviews on free concerts for my HS english class, but they always gave us choices as to what we could review, and I don't think it ever cost money.  What about McDonald's?  Does that count???

Re: Can you believe....
that teacher is not living in realilty.  We are both employed & still can't afford "Nice" restaurants.  Our special night out would be  Red Lobster or Olive Garden or Applebees or Chilis - which ever has the best coupon & best special going.
That is not a fair assignment.  Depending on his grade, you should speak to an administrator at that school.

I would think writing any review should be acceptable, hope the teacher gets that.

The teacher doesn't have a clue!  Totally not a fair assignment... I hope that she realizes that and comes up with a different assignment.

I'm still waiting to hear on what the teacher says. My son said the homework wasn't due today. He is in the 6th grade.

Loving all the responses....um, I happen to LOVE liver and onions, only when DH makes it, he uses a demi-glaze helps w/ the taste. If not, then it's ketchup! BUT don't give me BRUSSEL SPROUTS!
