They are so cute, but I would say they are more for a Kinder or 1st grade level...

My dd (7) LOVES them. She gets one or two every week at the library & has them finished before the week is up. Her teacher has read them aloud in class when I've been there- every kid was paying attention & giggling. We have discussed Junie's grammar- my dd knows it isn't right- part of what makes it so funny. Since she has been reading them on her own I have her tell me about what happens- & I ask questions; Should she have done that? Is there a better way to deal with that situation? Etc. Her reading scores (word per minute screening) in school are almost twice what her grade level says it should be, because she loves to read.
That said, I would think 4 is a little young for them- but you know your son.

I'm not saying forget what you lost
I suppose there's a purpose in pain
What we make of ourselves has a cost
And it's paid every time we take hold of the reins

I read a couple to DS#1 when he was 6. DS#2 was 4 and enjoyed them too. Like Tessa, we discussed Junie B's behavior. I think they are great read-a-louds for kids at K and 1st grade because they help kids to work through their own behaviors and feelings, but you have to also talk about them. When they are discussed, they can help kids to understand acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. Just be ready for lots of giggling!

WE LOVE JUNIE B. at our house. She is sooooooooooooo funny. I think that you should buy them and save them until she gets a little older. I think she would appreciate them more. The story lines are for older children, I believe. I think one of the first ones Junie B has is entering Kindergarten.....I think!

They are cute, Tory read them last year....my opinion though is "junie" is too whinny..i felt like i needed to read along and explain why what she was saying or doing wasn't right...maybe it was just me, tory tired of them quickly and we have moved on. ![Happy :-)](./images/smilies/smile_16.png)

AAron read those some in the 2nd grade, but mostly the Magic Treehouse Books he liked very much.
I sometimes read these to my class. The books usually get a good giggle from the kids. I teach first grade to put it in perspective.

I second the Magic Tree House books. Kids love them and they are great history lessons. Read about 22 of them when DSs were about 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 and they both liked them. I needed a break though!
