I am going to have to pay for a collect call from a complete stranger. I just got a collect call from someone with the same name as my sister's husband, so I accepted it (it was coming from the prison so I was totally freaking out). How much do collect calls run these days? Then the guy wanted to keep me on the phone and started asking me questions, so I had to nicely tell him good luck finding his sister (which is who he says he was calling) and hang up. By mistake I told him my name (first name only) before I realized it wasn't who I thought it was. ![Confused :bludconfused:](./images/smilies/smileblue_confused_16.png)

I think this is a scam, because I have had this happen recently too. I just hung up, but I have heard of other people accepting the calls. Sorry, and I hope the cost isnt high!

You can always get them to stop calling you. Make a note of the date and time he called; if he calls again, make a note of that, too. Then call the warden's office and tell them you're getting the calls and when. If you're getting letters, send them on to the warden, too. It will stop that same day. These inmates get into a lot of trouble, especially when you've told them to not call or write. It happened to me once back in the 80's and the guy was totally slimey - not only did the warden take care of it, a few friends who were guards there had some private talks with him....it definitely makes a difference.
I wonder, sometimes, if we ever give God a headache.
ok wow that is just weird. And I agree that it probably wasnt a coincidence. Prisoners have to much access to the outside world.

How strange that he had the same name as your bil. I'm sorry you're stuck with the bill.
What a creepy call. Call the phone company and ask if they will compromise on the charge. Explain you thought it was BIL. It nrver hurts tp try.

Queen Mum - Grammy to Princess Bump (Lisa Giann) and Princess Bean (Gia Bella)
They just had something on the news yesterday morning about this.
you should call your phone company. i've heard of scams where inmates do this and then when you hang up they somehow keep the line open and make hundreds of dollars worth of calls.
Both my MIL and my SIL are in prison, (yeah, dh has a hard time with it) We had to approve our number to the prison before they were allowed to call. I would call the warden and talk with them about it. They can do some checking and that guy can get into some trouble I am sure. We pay about $19 for every call they make.

Really weird. But how would you know it wasn't your BIL? Calling from a jail he could have been in trouble, so I would have done the same thing. Def keep track if it happens more than once. I hope it doesn't end up being too big a charge cuz that's crazy!
