I love my red wine but it's not loving my teeth. I can't afford to get a teeth whitening at the dentist and thought I'd try the stuff you can buy at the store, like Target or something. But I have no idea which one to try.
Got any suggestions?

I think it's called Crest Advanced Total Whitening. My dh used that and it was pretty good.
I'm not sure....will be curious to see what you use and how they turn out! Keep us posted!

I've heard people say that their teeth get really sensitive after using that teeth whitening stuff..
Try putting peroxide in your mouth and holding it there while you shower and then spitting it out - DON'T SWALLOW IT!!! It's supposed to whiten your teeth (and kills germs, too!)

Have you tried it?Janshotgun wrote: I've heard people say that their teeth get really sensitive after using that teeth whitening stuff..

the peroxide thing, with baking soda, is what my grandparents used to brush their teeth. I've thought about using it to whiten my teeth because my dentist doesn't recommend the whiteners - but I desperately need something after years of drinking coffee and wine.
No I haven't - but somebody sent me an e-mail last week on the benefits of peroxide and that was one of the items mentioned.-Shannon- wrote:Have you tried it?Janshotgun wrote: I've heard people say that their teeth get really sensitive after using that teeth whitening stuff..

I've tried the strips and the paint on stuff with great results, but my teeth were so sensitive it was awful. And, they got thin and one chipped.
So, since they I have done the peroxide and baking soda. I mix them into a paste and brush my teeth AFTER I have brushed with regular toothpaste. Some say you don't need the regular, but I like the taste as the other has a nasty aftertaste and this will lesson it. I only do this every few days and it too makes your teeth sensitive, but not as bad.
good luck.

I just tried mixing the baking soda and peroxide together - it wasn't so bad but very bubbly. Obviously I have a very dirty mouth. I think I will give this a try for little while and see if it makes a difference.
try the mouthwash with whitener in it. My drugstore has a generic version but Listerine has one too. It is really helping me and then you can decide if you want to spend more money.
Plus I just found out from my dentist that there is actually a prescription set of those strips that you can buy (like crest) and my dentist sells them for $40.00 and they are stronger. She said it lasts about 6 months.
She suggested I try the mouthwash to see how it goes first before investing more $
I believe I got a double pack at Wmrt for $4.50 in the last month.
Good Luck

I work in the dental field. Most of my staff use the crest premium whitening strips. They take a little longer than the whitening done in dental offices but they work well. You can get them at Target for around $50 or so. They can make your teeth sensitive so try using toothpaste geared towards people with sensitive teeth.I would use the toothpaste for a few weeks before doing the whitening. Good luck
