Re: I can't stand where I live...
I live in a so-so suburb of the same city where I was born and raised.  Once many years ago, I lived about a hundred miles from here for 6 months when DH was in the military but I came back home almost every weekend.  And 2 of my 3 kids live within 15 minute drive of me.  So yeah guess I like where I live.

Re: I can't stand where I live...
I loved living in Monterey because of the military base. I had so many friends there! However, my dh hated it because everything we could afford to do was a long drive away.

Then we moved to San Angelo, Texas and there was nothing to do but we had a ton of friends there too. Lots of game nights and movie nights, dessert swaps, etc.

Then we moved here to Utah and it was 3 years in this house before I thought we were starting to make friends! I like the environment here and the proximity to shopping and the practically zero crime rate in Roy... but A LOT of the people here grew up here or have family so close by that getting in their circles has been hard. I had to wait for a bunch of new people to move in!

Re: I can't stand where I live...
My first 21 years were as an Air Force brat, so I don't have a hometown, but I have lived in ABQ now for 13 years and though I wished there was more to do in the city, I like it.  The weather ROCKS, when the sunsets, the Sandia Mountains turn this purplish color.....beautiful!!

When I visit other cities, I MISS the mountains and then I'm lost, I don't know which way is N, S, E or W.  In ABQ you know the mountains are to the East, so I always know which direction I'm going.  I lived in Missouri before I moved here and a girl can get lost in corn fields.  Just sayin'.

I feel like that every year during tornado season!  I'm the opposite though.  I grew up in small towns and miss them.  The city is a whole new world for me and it's taken me a long time to adjust.

I hope it gets better for you!

jjenni08 wrote: Boy do I know how you feel right now!  I live in Fort Myers, FL.  Its about 30 mins from Naples if that helps anyone.  There is nothing here but old rich money!  I have been here two years and I have one friend.  I go to college but I am 29 so its not exactly like I am going to school with people my age so that sucks.  Also, my family is minimum of 6 hours away with most of them being 17 hours away!  My husband grew up here and loves it here.  I try to accept being here but darn it it is so tough.

I am glad to know I am not the only one that feels this way about where i live.  I sometimes wonder if this is what I am doomed too the rest of my life!!!  Gosh I hope not!!
We used to vacation to Sanibel & have spent time in Fort Myers as well - I miss those days!

As for me, I HATE Connecticut.  I am always trying to get Phil to consider moving, but he likes his job (most of the time) and his family is close by in MA.  I only have 3 family members left (dad, bro, and nana) and really want to go where it's warm (either south, southern Cal, or Hawaii).  If I spoke French I would have already picked up & moved to Paris.

Re: I can't stand where I live...
Jan - I also grew up in a burb of Detroit and now live across state. While I love that we are not far from anything in the city there is not nearly as much culturally or food wise as there is in the Detroit area. I don't ever think I will get used to it and the people are not overly welcoming to newcomers (and I have been here for 15 years!).  But I am not dutch and I have the Detroit habit of saying what I think and not keeping my mouth shut  which people here don't like if you are not as conservative as they are.  I have no family here either. While I don't hate it here I don't exactly love it either.

I mostly like where I live, couple neighbors I could do with out though.... I like the small town, with a bigger town not too far off & then a big city just a tad further. I do hate that so many people are moving up here though- there are houses in every other hay field... how will the animals eat when all the crops are gone? How will the people eat when all the animals are gone? Part of why I would LOVE to move to Montana. Mores cows there than people- my kinda place, LOL.

I don't hate where I live - love all the nature and the wildlife and the quiet - but I would like to be closer to civilization. And I would kill for DSL!! I live too far out in the boonies for that.

I'm not a big fan of Southwest Missouri. Yes, the town I live in is safe and has great schools. But there's WAY to many tornados and it's toooo far from all my friends and family.

Omgosh - you poor thing! I don't know how any one can stand to live there. My in-laws live about 45 miles away from there and I consider that the arm-pit of the state, but noooo, West Memphis really is much worse!! I bet you are glad to be gone!!

I LOVE my house, the land and the mountains and view and knowing that every where I look it really is all ours and no one can build on it   BUT...

The people in this area are so backward, snooty and uneducated that I hate to ever drive down the mountain. I will drive through the town and 45 minutes away just to buy groceries and things once a week so that I don't have to deal with them. There are several colleges and a university in our town and you would think that would lend itself to be more worldly or open-minded but nooooo, they are as backward as any back water boonie place could ever be. It makes me sad. :waiting: That's why I love to travel with my son! :)

PLUS, it's a dry county so there is no wine with dinner and no alcohol to be found any where in the entire area. How is one supposed to live under these conditions?
