I hate summer. I hate the heat, the sun, the heat, and the sun. Oh, and the heat.
DH loves the heat and the sun. So every year for the last 7 years he's booked a vacation for Florida. The first time was fun. It was new to me, but I was ready to go back home when the week was up. Well, it's now become a yearly traditon. I told DH I didn't like it, but he loves it so we go every year. Every year my hate for Florida grows and now I despise it.
My youngest son (who is 3) is obsessed with water. Most kids like water I know, but this boy is OBSESSED with water and he has no fear or respect for it. So I never get to relax. I'm constantly worrying about him and drowning. But if I have my eyes on the youngest constantly, that means I'm not watching the oldest. The whole thing makes me a nervous wreck.
My DH just emailed the details to the trip and I started crying. I'm trying to be a good sport, but I absolutely HATE this.
We get a condo so I get the luxury of cooking the meals and doing laundry too. Fun fun fun.
Ask your DH if you can see a different ocean or perhaps spend one vaca where you aren't doing so much work!
I live in FL (my entired life), so I'm used to the nonstop summer's (with brief pauses for hurricaines). I can't wait... one more year and we're outta here!

So where in Florida are you going and when are you coming. I live in South Florida
TIA
DH and I alternate vacation destinations every year. IKWYM about vacations not being as much fun as when Mom did all the work
Heat-hating sisters unite!!!! Good luck with it!
We are going to Destin. I've tried to change spots in Florida hoping that a change would put me in a better mood. But DH doesn't like change. I would personally love to do something new every year, but he's happy staying at the same city, same beach, same condo every year.
The boys and DH love it. I'm the only one that doesn't. We've tried a few vacation spots of my choice over the years and everyone else hated it except me. So for right now I'm just sucking it up. I figure once the youngest gets older, I'll be able to go on vacations by myself.
But I gotta tell you, by Wednesday I've had enough. And by Thursday DH and I are no longer talking to each other.

OMG, I hate my dh's picks for "vacation" because really it means us going to his lame family reunions! ( His family isn't lame, just the reunions )
This year I told him go ahead but I am going to my mommas this time!
Oh and 100% agree with how bad it sucks to be the one doing all the work on "vacation!"

Tell your DH that if you have to go to Florida again, that he's in charge of keeping up with the son that's obsessed with water. Maybe he will be able to see how much fun you CAN'T have because you're constantly having to watch him, as well as your other child. My brother and his wife (they've been married for 14 years) trade off on vacations each year. She gets to pick one year, and he the next, etc. This year it's her turn to choose. They NEVER go on the same vacation, except if part of the vacation involves going to an annual/biannual reunion; then the reunion is the only part that's the same. So, COMPROMISE is the key!

I'll trade with you - I love summer, sun, & heat!
I like the suggestion of trading off each year. That way you can enjoy vacation too!

Next time try Southern California instead Your dh will still get summer & beaches but the summers here are not humid like Florida plus you get to visit a new place.
I feel your pain. My husband and I have been going to the Colorado River for the past 10 years. He loves the heat, I swear the man doesn't even break a sweat in 120 degrees. I, on the other hand melt. I hate it. We used to take our motorhome (housework on wheels). As our kids got older, they of course had to bring friends with them. It was awful being in a small space with 8 kids, some of them teenagers. Yikes! Now 2 of them drive, so they all drive out together, and we take our truck with the wave runners. We reserve 2 rooms in a hotel and stick all the kids in their own room. Of course the rooms are together, with the door opened between the 2. One year when our youngest was 4 we took a babysitter with us. You might want to consider trying to find a responsible teenager, or maybe you have a relative who would like a vacation. If you are renting a condo, the cost for an extra person, might be worth it. That way you and your husband could spend time together without the kids in the evenings. It would give you a little bit of a vacation. Who knows you might come home actually liking each other.
You are not a spoiled brat, just a mother who wants to have a little fun on a much deserved vacation.

I'll go with your family to Floriday. I love the heat! Then you can stay home for a week, and that will be your vacation.

we also make a yearly trip to the sunshine state. The week of the fourth. with teenagers it isn't as bad. so if your stuck with going every year know that it will get easier. we use to go to sc every year for the 4th "coalminers vaction" now brian and i both love the races so we rent a large condo with his brother and wife thier kids are 18 16 14 all boys mine are 15(boy) and 13(girl) so ash is usally odd man out only one friend required though. it makes for a really nice vacation they watch the kids one night while brian and i go out and we do the same for them another. then when ever weve had enough of the boys me ash and susan go shopping while all the boys go race go carts. maybe you could find another couple to vaction with two more momma eyes helps alot while on the beach too
I would love to go to Destin. I think it would be a beatiful beach to go to. I see where you are coming from thoug, I would have already pitched a fit and we wouldn't be oing anywhere if I had to go to the place every year that I didn't like
TIA
That seems awfully unfair of him, especially since he knows how much you hate it. I think you should get to take turns.
In our family I make the plans because if I didn't, we'd never go anywhere! We're doing Connecticut at the end of the month and DH is less than thrilled. If he ruins our first family vacation, he will be exterminated.
Is there any way you could sit down with your DH and talk to him about this? Give him some other options for vacation locations? {{HUGS}}
