What an excellent book! This is a novel told through letters written by and to Juliet Ashton, a writer living in London who has survived WWII. A resident of Guernsey Island, which was occupied by the Germans, sends her a letter and tells her of the literary society they began on the island which helped them through the occupation. Thus begins correspondence between Juliet and members of the Society. Juliet eventually goes to Guernsey and becomes a part of the life there as she writes their story. I'm nearly done with the book, so I'm not sure how it ends yet but it is a beautiful story full of laughter, sadness, horror at the atrosities of the War. I highly recommend it!
