Can I create a host with no SNMP healt check ?

Post by BelgianViking »

I want to create a host which I cannot access with SNMP. I will only be measuring latency.
I create this host, specify its IP address, and do not fill in an SNMP community string. The host will be marked as 'UP' in the Devices Status with a 100% Availability but without a response time. With that, I can live.

But I have the impression that the host will not be polled, because it cannot be accesses with SNMP. The log will indicate this :
10/21/2005 09:26:04 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[13] No host availability check possible for '83.90.202.54'
10/21/2005 09:26:04 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[13] SNMP Result: Device does not require SNMP

Is there a possiblilty to make the 'ping' the host availability check for such host ?

Thanks.

As of now, you cannot change the uptime detection per-host. It's only a global setting (settings | poller | Downed Host Detection ) Change that to ping only.
