Data Souce related to no host double polled (x cactid pr.)

Post by BelgianViking »

I have an issue with a Data Sources that are not related to a Host selected from the Devices list !
I measure latency to a remote device (with fping). Since I have a lot of these, I do not create these hosts in the Devices list.
I have made a Data Input Method that runs a perl script, giving me the result of the latency measured by fping. This script takes an IP address as a parameter. Than I create a Data Source (selecting 'none' as Data Template and 'Host', and fill in the IP address I want to ping in the Custom Data. I do this for each of these devices.
When I run the poller, based on cactid and I select more than 1 'Maximum Concurrent Poller Process', each of these processes seems to get a value for these Data Sources, leading to a 'Duplicate entry' error :

10/20/2005 01:27:22 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:5.2971 Method:cactid Processes:2 Threads:20 Hosts:7 HostsPerProcess:4 DataSources:71 RRDsProcessed:37
10/20/2005 01:27:21 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] ERROR: Problem with MySQL: Duplicate entry '53-latency_remoffamste-2005-10-20 13:27:17' for key 1

Running a single poller process the error dissapears :

10/20/2005 01:26:08 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:7.2327 Method:cactid Processes:1 Threads:20 Hosts:7 HostsPerProcess:7 DataSources:71 RRDsProcessed:37

With more debugging set, I see the following line appearing the number of poller processes configured:
10/20/2005 01:23:56 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[0] DS[53] SCRIPT: perl C:/wwwroot/cacti/scripts/pingwin.pl 81.58.2.222, output: 36.0

With 3 poller processes, I will see 3 different output values and 2 'Duplicate ...' errors.
I suspect that the fact that the Data Source relates to no host (Host[0]) is the reaon for this behaviour.
On the other hand, I don't think it was meant to behave like that ?
What's the experts' idea about this ?
