Post by Mineiro »

How do I configure the following task?
To use the SYSTEM account, just type SYSTEM as the login user with NO password.

Anyone?

I strongly suggest you don't do this because it will create problems with running scripts on remote machines. Just use a normal user account.

But now I get the following error:

Windows saved user XXXXXXX\Cacti registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

Question, nothing to worry about? Or can I get rid of the error?

Interesting, what OS you on? I'm running cacti on win2k3 and I've never seen that message before. TheWitness has though. TRy this tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

Have you ever logged onto your machine with the user account you've assigned cacti?

I' am running on W2K3 SP1 and I have logged on on the machine with the cacti account once or twice, usually if I try to troubleshoot a rights issue in the setup phase I do a cmd with run as, and then I use the cacti account.

I had found the tool as wel, but was a little reluctant to installing it, I backup my machine later first and than give it a go.

I will report back if the message dissapears.

Ok, just installed the service and this reported the tool in the event viewer application log: The following handles in user profile hive XXXXX\Cacti (S-1-5-21-1058498199-3748418090-1120560204-1124) have been closed because they were preventing the profile from unloading successfully:

php-win.exe (3364)
HKCU (0x7b0)

So it seems my php-win.exe stays some sort of active. I keep an eye on the event viewer application log to see if it stays clean.

Radical, but try using php 4.4.0. Thats what I'm using and I dont have these problems. I know TheWitness was using php 5.04 so maybe that is the problem.

Need to do the old password trick to fix that.

That was the trick that solved the password issue. All cacti stuff functions again. But I still get the errors regarding the registry. Is there some other logging I could do to see why my php.exe (Version4) or php-win.exe (version5) are still active and generating the error? I am getting more and more interested to get better understanding of this whole thing.

Hmm, couldn't tell ya. Whats the event id # for those messages? Maybe you have some more logging turned on in the OS which I don't?

The Event ID: is 1201, I googled on that but it all comes to User Profile Hive Cleanup Service some way or another. One this I found was some Terminal Server user profile unload error, what I do mostly is Remote Desktop to my server for all kinds of things, but allways with the Administrator account (yes I know least privilege etc) maybe there is some difference there.
My install is pretty fresh I did a new install a month ago of version f and an upgrade to g last week, thats when the errors started. It is a small installed base as well an old laptop PIII W2K3 SP1 Enterprise Edition for IIS, cacti, php, perl and MS SNMP with only a couple of devices to monitor so nothing fancy. BTW I did not run the Security Configuration Wizard (yet) on this server.
Is there something extra to configure about the account that starts the scheduled task? Just thinking out loud.
