Graphs work with bits/sec, but not with bytes/sec

Selecting this graph type gives a valid image of bandwidth usage.
Interface - Traffic (bits/sec, Total Bandwidth)

Selecting this graph type gives no image of bandwidth usage. When I go to the php file generating the image, it returns a zero.

What might be causing this issue?
