FreeBSD: Upgrading Cacti from x to g

Hello,

I'm running Cacti on various sites to measure everything I can get my hands on.

I've deployed the servers with FreeBSd 5.x on them and they have been working a treat.

What I want to ask the unix crowd here is whats your prefered way of upgrading cacti on BSD, I could use the ports but I dont know if I'll loose any data, or I could just download the tar and build it manually, but obviously this will make my pkg_info information incorrect.

Any tips/comments are welcome.
