Host MIB disk space non consistent values for disk space

Post by danviv »

Cacti is great........its doing the job brilliantly...except for a few problems like i have.

The disk space graph is very inconsistent. I am using the default SNMP Host MIB disk space script in Cacti. Cacti is not always able to report the correct total or used disk space. I find this problem only with disk space graphs. Other graphs like CPU usage, interface statistics are all working ok.

Does anybody has an idea why this is happening. Anybody please can help to resolve this issue?

What OS and service pack is this on?
You using the MS SNMP agent or net-snmp?

I've monitored disk space usage on XP Pro, XP Pro+SP2, Win2K3, and Win2K3+SP1 with no problems with the MS SNMP agent.

hi bsod2600,

Thanks for your reply.

The monitored servers are Windows 2000 with SP4.
The Cacti machine is also on Win 2000 with SP4 and it uses the net-snmp package. When you say MS SNMP do you mean the snmp agents installed on monitored servers (like X, Y, Z) or the snmp package on cacti machine?

Also i dont know if MS SNMP is supported on Win 2000 machines. Can you give me a link where i can download MS-SNMP agent please?

Also the problem i have reported is not on all monitored servers. About 60% of servers are being monitored correctly for disk space usage, so cant really tell that this is a net-snmp issue.

MS = Microsoft.

I was asking if you're using the Microsoft snmp agent (the one that comes with windows) or net-snmp. Since you're apparently having problems with the net-snmp one, I suggest you either upgrade it or switch to the Microsoft one.

Is the server under heavy cpu load? I've noticed that my disk usage graphs get small gaps in them when either the machine being polled or my cacti server is under high cpu load.

Whats the average network latency to that computer? Could simply be SNMP timeouts.

I've a similar problem using SNMP Get Mounted Partitions. This is on a basic W2KSP4 MS SNMP machine.

Notice I get almost no info in the graphs.

Verbose output gives:

Seems to me that the ss_host_disk script isn't pulling out the results...

I've I snmpwalk to .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3.1.5 "used" I get :

C:\Documents and Settings\marsh>snmpwalk swodell38 .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3.1.6
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.25.2.3.1.6.1 = INTEGER: 0
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.25.2.3.1.6.2 = INTEGER: 609304
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.25.2.3.1.6.3 = INTEGER: 0
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.25.2.3.1.6.4 = INTEGER: 3361

.2 should be the C: drive, and .4 the "virtual memory" drive.. But it only seems to pull out the value "0"... I guess thats the "output 0" bit ??

Where in the logs would it show the .2 and .4 that is should be polling ??
