snmp monitoring on bintec X2300

Post by frederic.N »

hello, i ask myself concern the fast ethernet port monitoring on a bintec X3200 router, indeed, when i added this sort of device in cacti, it show me the REFUSE ( or REFUSED in english ) in the description field

i dont know if it is a router security system or if it's simply due to the unconfigurability of this router

thx for answer.

regards, frederic.

Are you able to query the router with snmpget or GetIF fine from the Cacti box?

mh where can i see this ? sorry i just set up the monitoring system and i 've got some difficulties to have graphs, so i aim to make rules it at the moment.

but if i use snmpget such as :

user1@localhost:~$ snmpget -v1 -c <community> <ip.addr> system.sysDescr.0

it return me :

SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-IS-M), Version 12.2(13b)M2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

in this way i think that snmpget could work doesn't it ?

another examples :
determine the first interface address :

snmpget -v1 -c <comunity> <ip> .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.6.1

return :

IF-MIB::ifPhysAddress.1 = STRING: 0:d:bc:13:73:60

Ok, so you're able to get snmp data from the router. Now to work on cacti.

1) When you added the router in cacti, does cacti show the device as up or down?
2) When you click on the device, does it show the basic snmp information about the device at the top of the screen?

here is surely the problm, indeed on the "devices table", there are some router which are shown "Up", and other which are shown "down" but i'm sure there are all up.

so, the down devices returns basic snmp solv : error
and the up device returns basic snmp solv : good

when i type this post, there is only 1 up with good snmp results, but before have created all the devices to monitoring, with only 3 or 4 devices, there were shown up at all.

is that due to i implant the monitoring system on a low computer ?

hardware : P133 - 32Mb ram edo - 1Gb HDD scsi ... i have no choice for the machine, it is the only avalaible.
