'root'@'localhost' ?! cactid problem

Post by kslt »

hello

after installing all of the things i can't run cactid cause i recieve this error:
CACTID: Using cactid config file [cactid.conf]
WARNING: Unrecongized directive: LogFile=/var/log/cactid.log in cactid.conf
08/02/2005 12:07:09 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] MYSQL: Connection Failed:
Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

my configuration is:

DB_Host localhost
DB_Database cacti
DB_User root
DB_Pass
LogFile /var/log/cactid.log

why in the error appears the ' ' signs ?
whats wrong ?
how i can change the "using password" to NO ?

Ehm. You need the correct username and password for your database :p

Edit: Why do you not want a password?

And you are sure the username and password you have provided has access to the cacti database?

FWIW, I have filed the following bug on this :

http://bugs.cacti.net/view.php?id=710

It includes details of a (kludgey) way to work around the problem.

I can tell you right now, that bug is going to be a very low priority.

Reason I say that, because a blank password is a very bad idea from a security standpoint.

I appreciate that having no mysql password is bad security in the abstract, but in certain environments it is desirable. It's my view that a given application which uses MySQL should be as agnostic about passwords as MySQL is. In other words, it should recommend using a password, but allow users to run without one. Just my opinion, and I'm aware that cacti dev team may disagree.

Thanks for the response, though! :)

This has been fixed in SVN. We will release as soon as the patches pass QA. QA's speed is a measure of free time and momentum.
