Missing SNMP Interfaces

Post by bintut »

Hello all,

I installed rrdtool-1.0.37, cacti-0.6.8, ucd-snmp-4.2.3-2mdk, php-snmp-4.1.2-7, libsnmp0-4.2.3-2mdk and ucd-snmp-utils-4.2.3-2mdk on my Mandrake Linux 8.2 system.

Now, when I clicked the SNMP Interfaces, I only got one HOSTNAME and that is my Cacti server. When I clicked the Refresh Interface and after that, clicked the View Gathered Interfaces, I got nothing. But still, in my Current SNMP Hosts page is still my Cacti server. What could be the problem?

BTW, I have 6 diskless thin clients connected to my Cacti server and another 1 gateway box.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

God bless...

I am not sure if you left this step out or not. You didn't mention it in your question.

When you go to the snmp interfaces you must add the ip address of the device you want to gather interfaces on. Hostname (Hostname is the default name of the local machine when you install Mandrake, I think) would be your local machine. If you want to look at the diskless machines you would have to add the ip address to the list of snmp interfaces and also make sure you have some type of snmp service running on the diskless machines.

For example:

I have a Cisco PIX515 Firewall with 3 interfaces (3 NIC's). I open SNMP interfaces and add the ip address of the firewall and the community string for the firewall and hit save. The community string is like a password for the snmp information. Once I have done this I click on "gathered interfaces" for my firewall and should see all 3 interfaces from my firewall.

Hope this helps.
