possible to use |host_description| in data template?

Post by skopii »

Hello,
I have created a nice little script that takes two arguments, the user running the process[es] and the hostname of the server. I have also setup ssh keys. The script returns cpu: #totalcpu \n mem: #totalmem.

I am wondering if it is possible to use a cacti variable like |host_description| to specify the hostname based on the template? I am not sure if thats quite how cacti works (I am obiously a noob). I have quite a bit of servers to implement this on. Maybe there is an easier way to add data sources? perhaps in groups?

Or would I be better off not specifying the hostname in stdin and grepping the data from stdout.

Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
