graph weirdness/inconsistencies with rrd versions

Post by somewhat »

Hi, after struggling through getting everything going Im at the last hurdle but bit lost on this one. Everything is working fine and graphs are being produced, however using the standard in/out bits graph template no figures are being shown on the graphs - basically it just shows 2 dots where usually the speeds/max/avg etc would be shown.

The properties of the graphs shows these values being calculated. I experimented with different rrd versions - If I use the standard win32 compile from the official site it will produce the proper graphs with figures etc but only from rrd files generated using the cygwin version from the cacti site - it fails to produce any rrd files when poller runs.

Hopefully that makes some sense and someone has experienced this before! Happy to post any output/info needed, but am leaning towards just setting up a linux box :wink:

The RRDTool 1.2.x on the RRDtool site does not work with Cacti. It has a bug and appears not to be fixable by the contributer who published it. He knows of the problem though.

Thanks, yeah I was aware of that - maybe I didnt explain it well but only the version from the official site will generate graphs with text on them (after Ive used the cacti compile with the poller to grab some data)

Im now wondering if its got anything to do with the RRD_DEFAULT_FONT environment variable issue, which might explain why I get no text/fonts? But have tried setting this to an existing font to no avail :cry:

Apply the patch at: www.cacti.net/downloads/patches/0.8.6d/pre-patched. Then, goto Settings->Paths and set the default rrdtool font path (including filename).

Also, you will find finer control in Settings->Visual and Graph Settings. The precident is as follows:

Graph Settings
Settings->Visual
RRDToolDefaultFont
