SNMP Versions
At the moment we are polling Windows boxes with SNMPV1 but I want to use SNMPV2 because of some new MIB's I want to use but I can't seem to figure out where to configure SNMPV2 for Windows.
It's been a while since I configured the SNMP/Cacti box that's why I'm asking this (probably) rather dumb question.

MS SNMP does not support SNMPv2. You'll need to use a third party program (like net-snmp).

Windows Server 2003 also supports SNMPv2c, which is defined in RFC 1901, “Introduction to Community-Based SNMPv2,” RFC 1905, “Protocol Operations for Version 2 of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv2),” and RFC 1906, “Transport Mappings for Version 2 of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv2).” SNMPv2c updates protocol operations by introducing the GetBulk request and authentication based on community names.
Or doesn't this mean what I think it does?

I stand corrected.
I just tested my win2k3 server and it returned values for 2c also.

Cacti 0.8.6d (if you use the new version of lib/snmp.php) combined with PHP 4.3.11 or 5.0.4 give you full support of SNMPv2 via the user interface and the cmd.php poller. Of course, cactid already supports SNMPv2.

Umm, short of installing it, setting up a community, and allowing hosts. Nope.

Guys,
Found this thread and I think you'll have an answer for me ...
I'd like to use 64bits counter under Windows XP, because I now have a Gbps interface ... So I need SNMP v2c, right ? (Cacti is on another box, running Linux).
So, unless I switch to 2k3 ( ) I should use net-snmp ?
Is it working fine under Windows ??
Thanks for your answers !

Windows 2000+ supports v2c. However, I don't think that there are no 64bit counters.

Hi again,
I did try to install net-snmp under WinXP but I don't really like it (and I didn't manage to make it works ... I didn't spend the whole night trying).
How do you guys are monitoring Windows Gigabits interfaces ??
(I also tried SNMP-Informant but it doesn't bring Counter64 either).
Thanks !

I'm monitoring my Intel Pro 1000 CT NIC on WinXP with standard Micosoft SNMP and I haven't noticed any problems.

No, I don't pass a lot of traffic. Being on a cable modem limits my P2P activities.
