I've dabbled in MRTG and Cricket over the past few years, but never been what you'd call a "power user". I am now looking at Cacti after hearing about it at LISA in Atlanta. From a day-to-day graph-viewing perspective, I like the UI far better than that of Cricket or MRTG.
I have some trouble with the documentation and the terminology used throughout the code, though. Just like RRDTool itself, there are several features whose names imply that they are related or derivative, but in fact they are very different functions.
The first one that's confusing me is "Data Input Method" vs. "Data Query". After a few hours of reading the documentation and working with my installation, I think that the "Data Query" name really should be changed to something like "Setup Query" or "Device Setup Query". It's really only used when configuring new devices/graphs. And I also think it should be moved from the "Collection Methods" section of the menu to the "Management" section.
Thanks for your consideration, and what looks to be a fine new tool.
Rename "Data Query" to "[Device] Setup Query&
