ipaliasing help needed please :)

hey,

Is there a way, that i'm able to monitor interfaces aliases like eth0:1? I searched the board for a while now and i found only 1 item about this and it says i must edit a xml file. Don't understand much about it. Anyway...

is there anyone who can explain me, how to get it done ?

You need to edit your Interface Data Query and then once editing, goto the graph type that you want to create and edit it. When you get there, you will find a "Suggested Name" section. You need to add the following at the top for Graph Title:

name |host_description| - Traffic (or what ever) - |query_ifAlias|
Make sure it's at the top of the list and it will be selected first. Then, to change the names of existing graphs, goto the graphs page, select the graphs you want to apply the ifAlias to, and then from the drop down, select "Reapply Suggested Names". You will be all set then.

what do you mean with graph page ? i can't find this "Reapply Suggested Names" option anywhere :(

nevermind i found it already, but now i got the following problem, when i do a verbose query i see that if snmp is doing a qeury on ifAlias it finds nothing..

In a round about way, he's saying there is no IF-Alias in your dump, so cacti can get that information. :D

so cacti can get that information
oke.... now all i need to know is how ?? i tried a snmpwalk with .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 but this only gave me : IF-MIB::ifAlias = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID... :(

Maybe there is a way to monitor by ip instead of monitoring by interface ?

Nope... Your device isn't returning an alias for the interface, I would consult support for that device.
