cacti graph is not accurate if it is more than 3 months ago

Post by jsofari »

I don't know whether someone has asked this before or not, but I searched on the internet and didn't find anything. Is it true that in Cacti version 0.8.8h, traffic that has been around for more than 3 months has changed and become inaccurate? You can see from the picture that I attached from week 1 to week 4 and when the traffic is shown for 1 month there is a significant difference

If I really have to upgrade Cacti, is it safe if I immediately upgrade from version 0.8.8h to the latest version?

Read Cigamit response here:
https://github.com/Cacti/cacti/issues/2639

It is about data source profiles
https://docs.cacti.net/Data-Profiles.md

You can update directly. Make backup before upgrade (mysql, rrd files).

you mean this one right?
"Cacti, and in fact really RRDtool, aggregates data over time, which reduces the precision of the data."
and if I read from the data source this profile can be adjusted
"The Cacti GUI allows you to change the averages on a specific Data source profile some setups require a higher resolution of data and you may want to change the averaging to keep the most data this will come with a cost of storage due to the bigger sized RRDfile"

Do you have any suggestions for how this could be good?

It's configurable to your liking. Do some reading on the topic and you will find just about every TSDB does it. I'll leave it to you to discover the clarity in that design choice.
