Problem with Pix.

Post by Nick »

Hi all,

I got a problem with my Pix Firewall using cacti. I can snmpwalk on and get anythings I want, but cacti says always it is DOWN...

I tried to delete and reinstall the device, but the problem still there...

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Cacti pings using snmp. If your read community/IP address does not have access to sysDescr, or it's blank, Cacti will not poll correctly. One of your options is to turn availability to ping only.

what verison snmp are you using to poll the PIX? Use snmp v1 for the PIX

Both don't work.

But the SNMP Requests seem to work, because I get this in Cacti Device page:
System: Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.3(1)
Uptime: 612919200
Hostname: PIXWALL
and
1) SNMP - Interface Statistics (Verbose Query) Uptime Goes Backwards Success [14 Items, 2 Rows]

It has been a while, but I seem to remember reading something to the effect that an snmp v 2c query can poll v1 stats for compatabiliy sake. It is not even 7am here yet and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet. have you tried clearing all the Cacti caches?

What do you mean by "All Cacti Cache" ?
I cleared the poller cache, but how can we know if it has worked?

Anyway the problem still there...

that is what I meant...clear poller cache.. Are you allowing icmp to the PIX from the Cacti server? even though you are using snmp?

Yes. No pb to send manually an ICMP request to the PIX from my CactiBox.
