Cacti different data profiles (5-10min poll)

Post by roninsakos »

hello i have a simple question.i have a multipoller setup with 2 remote pollers(with devices) +1GUI (without devices) .i have configure cacti to have the first (1) remote poller graphs with a 5 min polling data profile and in the other (2)remote poller the graphs to have 10 min polling data profile.the 2 pollers dosn't have the same devices.Every device has only graphs with the same data profile. the poller on all 3 systems(2 remote ,1 gui) runs every 5 minutes.++(cron and cacti conf). It is a must that the graphs/devices that have a 10 minutes polling profile to ask the device for snmp data only every 10 minutes.so the question is with this setup on the (2)remote poller when the cron poller runs every 5 minutes (cron and cacti conf) it will do snmp to the devices (that have graphs with the 10 min profile) or it will ask the devices for data only every 10 minutes?

is there any way to have in the master poller(gui) 5 minutes graphs (cacti settings +cron) and in the remote poller 10 minute graphs (cacti settings +cron)?? it seems that if you change the settings to the remote poller, it does the same changes also to the master. Also if i keep 5 minutes poll in cacti conf + cron on the remote poller with 10 min graph profiles it seems that every 5 minutes asks the device for data and we don't want that.also if i change the cron to 10 minutes poll i have gaps in the graphs.(obviously is beacause of the polling heartbeat )

You can always to that, but you have to make the profile an editable column when creating data sources so you can change the profile_id for each data source created.

If you want this as a automatic feature, you can log it at GitHub.

Maybe you didnt understand my question.can i make a ten minute profile and having a cron job run every 10 minutes but in the cacti configuration to have 5 minutes polling?because as i test it for some reason it asks the device every five minutes .Also in multipoller setup why i cannot have different cacti polling configuration for every remote poller and why it must be the same with the main poller?the main poller needs only the data in the right time (depending on the profile ) for writing them on the rrds.

The cron/service timing will always be the same, what is in fact done during that poller run will vary depending on the collection frequency. That's the way it works. If you are concerned about load, don't worry about it unless it's some plugin that you have to also deal with.
