Graphing cacti ingest rate?

Post by Javik »

Is there a way to graph how much data cacti is ingesting from individual devices by hour, day, etc?

The complexity of this software annoys me, so I thought I'd go try a "freemium" online monitoring service called New Relic.

Wat... from a handful of switches SNMP logging all port stats, it uploaded 120 GB of data in about 5 days at a 60 second poll rate.

New Relic: Please provide a credit card number for over 100 GB ingest. Estimating 500 GB monthly ingest, $240 a month, for just a small part of what I want to be monitoring.

Sigh, fine. I guess I will look at Cacti some more, lol.

Use the Data Source "SNMP - Interface Statistics" and then change the drop-down to "In/Out Bits with Total Bandwidth". When whatever time frame you look at will have a rough estimate of the bandwidth for that time period. I say estimate because it won't be exact because of how data is consolidated via RRDTool (you are dealing with averages of averages).
