Post by udiya »

Hello,
I've instal cacti 1.2.14 on LINUX centos8 , I want to install 2 external pollers

1. Do I need to install the server with same procedure of the main server ?
2. where I can find doc related to install external poller and connect them to main server ?
3. what is the advantage of and motivation of seperate poller server ?

https://github.com/Cacti/documentation/ ... Pollers.md

1 & 2. Follow doc above
3. There are lots of scenarios where having a remote poller is benefitual. For instance, if you have a separate network that you are monitoring a lot of devices, and you have high latency to that network. you can install a remote poller inside that network instead, and polling is faster and more accurate for those devices because you remove the latency issue.

A few things to follow, in config.php, there a bunch of r* variables that you need to uncomment. This should point to your main cacti server. You will need bi-directional MySQL and https ports open to make it work. So, for mariadb, you will need to do grants on both sides.

The remote poller is almost and entire cacti install. Docs are in github.
Before history, there was a paradise, now dust.
