Export Graph to PDF, Report Generation

It becomes quite important for us to be able to generate historical reports. Has any one done this before? What I was thinking is to use rrdtool to pull out the data , graph it then export to PDF file. I also would need some kind of GUI to accept the report request...

Ian and the Cacti team:
What is your suggestion ? If I were to write some thing like that , how would I hook it to Cacti ? Where do I start (what Cacti Module should I interface with...)
