It turns out that SNMP is deprecated in Windows Server 2012. I usually add the SNMP service, edit the community string, and then go to my Cacti server and add the Windows server as a new device.
How do I do that now? Any instruction would be much appreciated.
EDIT: I found it. It's just like in Windows 2008. I was using the Server Manager, Local Server page where services are listed. There you can only start and stop services.
Going to the real services panel through services.msc or administration tool, you can right click and choose properties for services like you always could.
I've been using 2012 for a couple of days now.....not impressed.

2012 was better than 2008 and 2016 better yet in my opinion. There are some things like you've noticed, when t comes to installing the service, I tend to use powershell. You also need to make sure to add the firewall rules to allow it through properly.
