Re: Cacti 1.1 openSUSE 15.0 Installation Configuration Guide
On page 16 onward you state
OR if you insist on your way...after you setup my.cnf instruct the users to restart mariadb so when the user gets to the installation wizard all those recommendation will NOT appear in red
BUT again, it's not like you're guessing (are you?) what parameters to change and what values to set so I'd stick to follow Cacti's installation process and recommend the user to make the changes suggest by Cacti.
Also when you mention plugins and those that have been absorbed to Cacti's core, there are others that Cacti officially supports and maintains as well and those can be found on github.
https://github.com/cacti
Hopefully one day they'll sort out the plugin and templates section which is a bit broken for new users to post.
I think you are more likely to create confusion here because your settings for my.cnf come from Cacti's setup recommendations which could change based on server's specs, correct me if I'm wrong. If you completed the my.cnf configuration section then it is safe to ignore the lines in red text.

Re: Cacti 1.1 openSUSE 15.0 Installation Configuration Guide
The settings for tunning MariaDB, my.cnf, are Cacti's recommended but for some reason the Installation Wizard does not recognize them. So I just recommend the errors are ignored since I know they were set correctly. Thanks for the feedback I will expand on the comment more in the next draft release.Pucho wrote:On page 16 onward you state

I don't want to start listing all the plugins and templates on GitHub or self hosted sites but I will add a note that other sources do exist.

Actually, the installer displays the values that are active. If it is showing the wrong values, you are incorrectly assuming the installer is wrong.

Re: Cacti 1.1 openSUSE 15.0 Installation Configuration Guide
I have had this issues when installing on openSUSE and debian. The setting in my.cnf are correct and it was restarted but the installer does not detect the changes. I did not give wwwrun permissions to read my.cnf and I do not think it does. I known my.cnf is being read when the mariadb service is started.netniV wrote:Actually, the installer displays the values that are active. Did you give read permissions to my.cnf? I'm not sure how to resolve this?
thanks
Tim

Cacti gets it's values direct from the DB. Try running the mysql client and issuing the following command to see:
Code: Select all
SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES

Re: Cacti 1.1 openSUSE 15.0 Installation Configuration Guide
thanks I'll take a look. Service mysql status shows that the /etc/my.cnf is being read as part of the service starting and the values in there are the Cacti recommended but for some reason they don't appear to be set.netniV wrote:Cacti gets it's values direct from the DB. You may find another configuration file is overriding them.

Re: Cacti 1.1 openSUSE 15.0 Installation Configuration Guide
Thanks I found the problem, I put the commands at the very bottom of the /etc/my.cnf and MariaDB was not reading that far down the file. I moved them up near the top and now the tunning settings are taking effect.netniV wrote:Cacti gets it's values direct from the DB. Sorry to insist but I'd still change this part
Best recommendation you can give to someone actually following a guide is make sure THAT part of the install is all good. As netniV 's said cacti shows active values either you haven't restarted mysql or you haven't changed them at all.
I've done several Cacti upgrades and I can tell you once you tuned up those values and press F5 the installer comes up with the new values right away.

I have already updated the installation section but took it offline to work on it more.Pucho wrote:Sorry to insist but I'd still change this part

Oh, and if I was you... I would actually start looking at the 1.2 installer, it looks and feels completely different
