Unable to upgrade/install in Ubuntu 17.04

Post by adiviso82 »

Hello guys,

I've been using cacti 0.8.8 and below for about 2 years now. Since there are so many versions coming out now I would like to try the new ones however I haven't been able to do a fresh install or upgrade on a Ubuntu 17.04 (in VmWare).
The documentation on https://github.com/Cacti/documentation did not help.
In the "upgrade" mode i first installed Version 0.8.8h then I followed the online doc. The error i get when trying to load is: Not Found The requested URL /cacti/index.php was not found on this server.
Another way around it would be to be able to install latest version using apt-get.

Is there any tutorial for upgrading from old versions to the latest?

Thank you!

You mixed Debian/Ubuntu packaging with the way upstream cacti recommends installing it. In the FAQ linked in my signature you can read why that doesn't work without modification.

You can use the ppa mentioned in my signature.

Hi Paul, many thanks for the clarification, this is definitely the easiest way (using the ppa). However it only upgraded to 1.21 while the latest is 1.24. Is there a way around this?
Off topic, but after upgrading the graph pages load a lot slower. I'm running in the same VM as before. Is this a known issue?

1.1.24 is a week old. Have some mercy on me and don't expect every cacti release in my PPA and don't expect them immediately after cacti releases them. As I said in an other post recently, I try to update at least once a month for now.

Hi Paul, sorry no pressure here just asking. I'm not a power user to hunt every bug fix. I'm really pleased about how smooth was the mysql db migration from the old version. However I'm still struggling to find a reason why everything is lagging so much (in the "graphs" tab). For example, loading a page with 100 graphs took me 23 seconds, one with 10 graphs 17 secs.

If you have any tips on what to look for it would be great. I'm thinking mysql params? I see process mysqld spiking to ~30% while loading the pages. The hdd is an SSD and the graphs have very basic plots. Same database was very fast on 0.8.8h.

Many thanks,
Adrian

Sorry, for that we really need others to jump in, I don't have a clue. But the FAQ in my signature has general debugging recommendations.
