what is the general operation of CACTI in drawing the graphs

Post by SarahHussein »

Hello all,

I need to know what is the general operation of CACTI in drawing the graphs. is this continuously or take the average. I mean now the graph is done : for the average of last 5 min or CACTI ignore the previous 5 min & draw the graph for the current status ??

I'm asking as there is a difference between the graphs drawn by CACTI and by Solarwinds.

waiting your feedback

Cacti can do both.

It depends on how you configure the graph template for a particular graph. It's the CF type for a Graph Template Item, which can be one of the consolidated RRAs from rrdtool: MIN, MAX, AVERAGE, LAST. The average of the last polling interval (default: 5 min) is AVERAGE, the current (or last) is LAST.

As default for traffic graph templates, Cacti is configured to paint a semi-transparent area with the AVERAGE value and draw a solid line on top of it with the MAX value.
