What variables should be consider when installing cacti

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm going to install cacti on a linux server and I would want to know what variables I have to consider (e.g Number of host to monitor, Polling intervals, latency of the network, etc) to adapt my server, in hardware terms, in order to get the best performance.
