Non-typical Cacti Devices?

Post by mbiundo »

Folks,
I'd like to use Cacti to poll some SNMP Digital Radio's and Cellular modems I use for radio telemetry in remote areas... All 3 vendors claim to support V1,2 and 3 SNMP. I'm new to Cacti, but very well versed with RRDTool. My questions:
0. Is there a very basic setting to poll non-standard devices... Initial trials are error prone...
1. Do I need to create a custom plug-in for the devices I want to poll / graph?
2. The vendors have sent me their MIBs... Do I need anything else from the vendors?
Thanks in advance. Moderator, sorry if I posted in wrong area.

Compare a snmpwalk with the MIBs and decide, which information is interesting for you.

Then build your own templates
http://docs.cacti.net/manual:100:3a_adv ... ta_queries
Cacti Version - 0.8.8h - Poller Type - SPINE 0.8.8h
MySQL - 5.0.54 - PHP - 5.1.6 -RRDTool - 1.2.23 - SNMP - 5.1.2
Plugins - Banner 0.32, Camm 1.6.7, Dashboard 1.2, Fix64bit 0.4, Monitor 1.3, Passwd 0.1, Settings 0.71, Tools 0.3, Realtime 0.5, Rrdclean 1.1, Spikekill 1.3, Syslog 1.22, Thold 0.6
