Local syslog to Cacti_syslog

The current cacti config receives syslogs from other devices and processes them with no issue. I enabled the Syslog support under settings and thresholds and verified if a threshold is breached, there is a log entry in \var\log\messages. Would I have to configre the machine to send the logs to itself so that rsyslog would capture this and insert it into the cacti db so I coauld create an Alert to execute a script?

Well it turns out one of the other Admins configured a Syslog Removal rule to drop everything with the name of the local server in it... Once I removed this and fined tuned what they wanted dropped, the messaged appeared and was able to create an alert from it....
