Problem w/Greater than symbol in arguments

Post by deeno »

Hi there. I have a perl script that I am using to retrieve RPM probes. The problem I am having is these probes contain a > symbol in their description. e.g. r01-home>s01-home. I have found that when the script is execute to retrieve the RPM data, however, it fails. I feel this happens, after reading the logs and trying it out manually, because of the > symbol, which is interpreted as a linux operator. If I surround the argument (i.e. "r01-home>s01-home") it works fine and retrieves the data.
I am not allowed to change the probe name to remove the > symbol. Is there a way to specify in cacti, perhaps the template or interface definitions, to surround a particular argument with double quotes?

I apologize if this is the wrong topic to post this in, I wasn't sure if it went here or the script/template one. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
