Device Status constantly "unknown"

Post by anthonymaw »

Hello I have just created a Windows host. Cacti can ping it and run SNMP queries against it. The polling interval is 5 minutes. However it's been more than 24 hours now and Cacti continues to report the Windows host status as "unknown" and thus does not generate RRA graphs, etc. against it. I checked that the Windows SNMP is set to the same Community as Cacti and the test queries work correctly - Cacti can enumerate WinServices. What am I missing ? Any help much appreciated. Hi,

Try using another down detection with only SNMP (SNNMP uptime or SNMP Desc). It's probably the Windows firewall dropping specific ICMP type of packets.

i also get that error, i've changed the downed device detection to other option, but the host still "unknown"
i also checked the uptime from snmp OID. if i get from snmpwalk, the uptime result is true, but in the cacti, it shows wrong result (it belongs to the uptime of the windows' snmp service uptime, not the server at all).
