Can cacti connect to devices behind NAT?
I have a few units I want to monitor and they are behind different NAT routers so all are on a separate networks compared to that of the Cacti server. I know Cacti needs a Hostname but what if the hostname isn't accessible on the same network as the Cacti server, is there a way to configure Cacti to get around that?
Re: Can cacti connect to devices behind NAT?
This isnt a Cacti specific issue, but routing. As long as the cacti server can reach a device via IP, you'll be good. Sounds like you need to look into setting up a port forward or ssh tunnel to the device(s) behind the NAT.

Re: Can cacti connect to devices behind NAT?
Bugga I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. The devices are out on their own with no public IP's or the ability to use a noip address. Basically they are dumb clients with access to the interent. I was hoping they could contact our public IP where Cacti is running and send data that way not Cacti needing to pull the information from them.
Thanks for the info.

Ok, what about the other way around. Have the clients connect via VPN or similar into your Cacti VLAN -- then the cacti server would be able to poll them.
