i'm using cacti 0.8.8e and when i make new graphs it doesn't show the description in the title.
previously, i used a previous version and we had a template that we changed to, then reapplied suggested names, and then go to the template and hit save.
hasn't this been fixed in the new version?
or is it still has to be manually done and if yes how?

Re: no description or ifalias in cacti graphs
did you already change the default graph title to include the ifalias?
data queries -> SNMP - Interface Statistics -> (select graph) -> Suggested Values ->
Create a new entry for both data and graph templates which uses the format you desire.

Re: no description or ifalias in cacti graphs
it didn't work:
i have the following in the data template of input output bits 64 counters.
name |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| - |query_ifName| Move Down Move Up Delete
name |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| Move Down Move Up Delete
name |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP|/|query_ifDescr| Move Down Move Up Delete
name |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifDescr| Move Down Move Up Delete
name |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| / |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|) Move Down Move Up Delete
rrd_maximum |query_ifSpeed|
in the graph template, i have :
title |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| Move Down Move Up Delete
title |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| (|query_ifDescr|) Move Down Move Up Delete
title |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifDescr|/|query_ifIndex| Move Down Move Up Delete
title |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| / |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|)
i got:
title |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| / |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|)
from an older post but it just doesn't work, it just displays the name of the switch - traffic - and the interface name. but no description of the interface.
i even made a new template and just pasted in the new value, and it also doesn't work.
perhaps there is something wrong with
|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| / |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|)
?

Re: no description or ifalias in cacti graphs
Why didnt you add an entry to each section that includes |query_ifAlias| ? That is the automatic solution. Then you select the existing graphs/data sources, select 'reapply suggested names' from the action dropdown, and they should all be updated correctly. do not manually edit graph titles for Data Query sourced graphs.

Re: no description or ifalias in cacti graphs
well you could have explained it more,
i got it, i added :
to interface traffic to graph and data and now it works as expected.
the question is:
why is this not added by default?
i got it, i added :
Code: Select all
|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| - |query_ifAlias|
the question is:
why is this not added by default?

Re: no description or ifalias in cacti graphs
Because no one has officially requested it be added?majedz wrote:the question is:
