Quick Question: Syslog refresh

Had a quick question. Anyone else have problems with syslog refresh times? I set mine to one minute and yet my syslog does not refresh. I go to console then go back to syslog as a way of manually refreshing in order to see any new messages. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
