Cacti just for presentation?

Post by mikew »

Hello,

From the cacti documentation I can see that cacti provides three tasks: data retrieval, data storage, and data presentation.

Before trying to install cacti I have one question: Is it possible to use cacti just for data presentation?

We already have a large number of rrd files that are being updated by a Perl script we do not want to change. At the moment our graphs are being viewed via drraw, but drraw does not seem to be developed any further. So we are looking for a new solution to offer these graphs to our customers. Besides, user management looks much more sophisticated in cacti than it is in drraw.

Regards,
Michael

Yes you can use it, but it's a bit "cumbersome" to add the graphs. Have a look here for more details:

Hi Phalek,

Thank you for your quick reply. This is exactly what I was looking for. I will give it a try.
