Help increasing the polling time

Contrary to many requests, I'd like to significantly increase the time between polling. I'm running a series of queries that take a 5 to 10 minutes, minimum, to complete and run only once an hour, logging to a file that I've pointed Cacti at via a data source that performs a parse. This results, with 5 minute polling, in very plateau like graphs. I'd rather it poll once an hour to more accurately reflect the data. I've tried modifying the step in the data source but the result is that it no longer runs at all.

What is the proper way to lengthen the time between polls or data points on a per data source/graph basis?
