how to get new data to cacti? (SNMP/WMI/OTHER)

I am developing a windows service that will get temperatures/volts/wattages/fanspeed etc to cacti.

I know there are other tools out there that does this, but they seem clumpsy and outdates (MBM, SPEEDFAN).

I am wondering how to get these data to the CACTI server. I can send SNMP traps, but I need to extend the MIB table quite a bit, and this is not something that is very easy.
Then WMI seems like a better approach, but there is no default way for cacti to aquire WMI data (also an old outdates script).

Is there other ways to get the data to cacti? database? file? xml?
