Offline host notification frequency

Post by BlueShift »

Hello All,

Cacti ver: 0.8.8a
thold Plugin ver: 0.5

I am looking to figure out if there is some way I can make some customizations to the 'downed host' notifications I get.

I want to tweak it (i.e. only notify me if the host is offline for 15 minutes etc - at this time I'm getting notifications every 5 minutes.)

Further, is it possible to schedule downtime for a host (i.e. a maintenance window) so Cacti doesn't get upset & mess up the availability rating when a host goes down? :D

We have a similar problem with the reporting that a host is down. What I think is a proper feature or solution to have for such situations is:
When a resource is down we would like a near immediate report of the situation. But when a down host remains down the longer that is is down the less likely it is going to come back alive within the next reporting second and for an extreme example if it has been down for several hours it really does not matter if we get reports each minute (or reporting period). A logarithmic attribute with a possible max limit for reporting frequency would be wonderful.

Threshold 0.6 has both of what you're requesting.
- ability to disable thresholds for devices
- ability to change notification repeats. Look into either the Time Based or Baseline Deviation Threshold types.
