Poller Cache Rebuilt, Lost Historical Data

Post by syrel »

Hello, I read a ton of previous threads looking for a solution to this problem but could not find anything so I apologize if this has already been resolved.

I attempted to rebuild the poller cache using the web GUI and that resolved my initial problem but appears to have created another. After the rebuild, I cannot view any of the historical data on any of my graphs. The graphs look as though my cacti installation occurred when the rebuild was initiated. It was definitely working before the rebuild and no other settings were changed. I need this older data as I brought it over from a previous server.

I followed the debug instructions at http://forums.cacti.net/about15136.html and everything appears to be working normally. I've read in other posts that rebulding the cache should not delete this older data, so I can't figure out why it's not being graphed. I tried restoring a backup of the RRD folder but that did not help the matter.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can recover the missing data? Below is my cacti info if it helps...

(disregard the 2 small gaps in the attached image, that was just the server rebooting)

Please use "System Utilities -> View Poller Cache". Is anything in there? As expected?

Thanks for your reply Gandalf,

yes there appears to be an entry for every .RRD file I have in the /rra folder (several thousand). SOME of the objects appear to be referencing different OIDs than they did before the rebuild, but I believe this could be due to recent device upgrades/refreshes. Most of the objects are still referencing the same OIDs and the same RRD files. However, this does not appear to make any difference as I compared two device graphs (one with new references and one with existing references) and both graphs are still graphing data found only after the rebuild.

So the poller cache looks mostly as expected?
And are the rrd file names referenced as expected or do they point to a wrong place?

yes everything appears to be as it should in the poller cache. i did a diff compare from an old database snapshot and found there were some rrd's missing and some were new. But I believe that was upgrading the hardware over the last few months so new OIDs were found/replaced. But the high majority of the RRds are still in the same folder as they were before, still have the same permissions owned by cacti user/group, still executeable, and the poller cache still references this location for each RRD file.

I did file commands on a bunch of random rrds according to the path listed in the poller cache, and all files were found.
[user@ libexec]$ file /var/www/html/cacti/rra/server-_hdd_free_6963.rrd
/var/www/html/cacti/rra/server-_hdd_free_6963.rrd: RRDTool DB version 0003
i also ran file command on the old server and found the version of the RRDtool file is the same as the new server (v0003). the poller cache is displaying the correct snmp version and the OIDs appear to be correct and have not changed.
