I usually solve this by avoiding the central icon being so small, or by using "BWSTYLE angled" so they sit within the link arrow (you need to use a truetype font for that).
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
