Hi,
We love Cacti! I just want to be sure I am not missing something obvious here on our Cacti 0.8.7g install running on RHEL 5.
While we can successfully poll SNMP V3 devices fine what we can't do out of the box is specify the SNMP V3 Engine ID. Most of our network gear doesn't require this but then of course you always have the oddball cousin!
This particular piece of equipment uses SNMPV3 Engine ID to direct the SNMP Polling Station to specific things to poll. The most important aspect is that, for whatever reason, they made it so you have to send all your SNMP polls to a "Gateway Node" which then forwards it to "Remote Nodes" based on the SNMP Engine ID. I have no idea why they made it that way but this is the only way we can poll nodes behind the gateway node. It acts as a proxy if you will.
In the "Device" section we can specify "Contexts" which are important in this use case as well but there is no place to do SNMP Engine ID. What do other people do who may have run into this? I have started to look at cooking up a custom Perl Script which hopefully can feed this data into Cacti via a customized Data Input Method.
Thanks!

Re: Can't specify SNMP V3 Engine ID?
So, a follow up question on how to possibly get this going is on the Data Input Method and an Input Field called "SNMP Engine ID". I am attaching two screenshots to hopefully better illustrate where I am stuck.
Basically I need a field where I can define an SNMP V3 Engine ID per host. However, what is confusing is that on my Data Input Method screen you will see two "Input Fields" called host. This is because my only dropdown menu item for "Field Input" is host.
Also, after I followed the tutorial here: http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:3a_adv ... ut_methods
I still don't see where on the Device page I can input the SNMP V3 Engine ID, like in a text box.... any help would rawk!
Thx,
jg
