Hello guys,
at the moment i'm trying to switch from mrtg/nagios to cacti. I installed cacti 0.8.8a on Win2008R2 using BSOD2600's all in one installer and cacti is running fine so far.
Up to now i monitored the servers and routers in our branch offices using mrtg (and nagios for some alerting); to get snmp data of the routers (snmp over vpn) i had to use net snmp as reverse proxy in every branch office as described in another thread of this forum.
I need a hint how to set up my monitoring the most effective way, please.
My network looks like this:
Central Network: running cacti on server-ip: 192.168.100.23
each branch: Server as reverse snmp (192.168.x.1) working with two read-communties (public and router), router (192.168.x.10)
In cacti i added the router as device with it's real ip address, changed the device detection from snmp-uptime to ping (because it does not respond to snmp directly), added a graph for Network ping (so i can see the quality of the vpn Connection). But at this point i do not know how to switch or add the ip address using my reverse snmp to collect snmp data without adding the router as new device with the ip address and community name of the server. I found an option to change the community name or ip address in the data template section, but do i really need to create a new data template for each snmp request? That would mean about 90 new templates (15 branches * at least 6 oid's to check).
I hope my english is not that bad and someone gets what i try to do. If there are any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Many thanks in advance
Martin
