Hmib OS discovery Fedora

Post by slindsey »

Hey all,
I have been setting up a cacti box for the last few weeks and it is going really well. This is greatly due to all of the great information, templates, etc that can be found here. One issue that I cannot seem to find an answer for is properly setting up OS type for Hmib. My install host is Fedora 17 and I cannot get hmib to detect my the OS type of my Fedora hosts. I did add an OS type for it but am not sure what oid to put in the SNMP OID section. I tried some of the OIDs from the other OS types to no avail. I also tried browsing through my hosts mibs trying to discover the answer also to no avail. If there is someone who can point me in the right direction here it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shelby

First, you have to find an OID that allows you to distinguish between versions. This might be the sysDescr OID. The value for my laptop e.g. currently is Linux localhost.localdomain 3.8.8-202.fc18.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Apr 17In this case, you would create a nice regexp, that parses out the "fc18" part of it.
