Google SMTP via SSL help

Ok...after two days, I admit I need some help. I'm trying to get thold to email us via google smtp, without luck. I've gone thru the forums and found similar errors, but have yet to find the fix for mine. This is the last step before moving Cacti into full production...

Below is what I have..

Cacti Version 0.8.8a
Apache 2.2
Windows 2008 R2
PHP Version 5.3.17

SMTP Host: ssl://smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465

Error: ERROR: Unable to connect to SMTP Host 'ssl://smtp.gmail.com': (73817484) Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?

I've been thru the below link several times, but I must be missing something simple. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I installed PHP via your installation package. By default, I do not believe it was enabled. I did however do the below..

extension_dir = "c:/php/ext"
extension=php_openssl.dll

I have "php_openssl.dll" located in my c:/php/ext folder. My windows path statement is correct also.

Looks like the install/configure isnt straight forward per http://www.php.net/manual/en/openssl.setup.php

Hi,

Could you please help me on that i am trying to use gmail SMTP to send mails? Also i am using linux debian operating system. I installed the settings plugin but i dont see any SSL checkbox under the Mail/DNS tab.
